JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION - SHIRT JAC (7", US)
DATE: 1992 LABEL: In The Red Records CAT NO.: ITR 007
A. Shirt Jac
B. Latch On
NOTES: VIEW:
Black vinyl 7" with large centre hole with plain white paper die-cut sleeve and jukebox insert.

In 2007 In The Red Records released tracks from the first five singles in this series on the Jukebox Explosion Rockin' Mid-90's Punkers compilation and this single was included on the 2010 release Year One.

Shirt Jac and Latch On were recorded with Steve Albini from the bands second recording session in November/December 1991 at Waterfront, Hoboken, NJ.

In April 2000 the Record Collector magazine published a feature on the Jon Spencer Blues Exploson and Pussy Galore which gave the release date of this as October 1991 but this seems unlikely as evidence would suggest Shirt Jac was not recorded until later that year.

Latch On is a Jon Spencer arrangement of a rockabilly song despite the fact that the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion version has very little in common with the most well-known recordings of this track (released by Ron Hargrave and The Cochran Brothers).

The UK MGM release of the Ron Hargrave recording often features in articles on rare / valuable records as there are only six known copies in existence.

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion version is more-than-likely a cover of the Cochran Brothers version of this song as both tracks feature the words "you are really gone" which do not appear in the lyrics sung by Ron Hargrave.

Part one in the 'Explosion Juke Box Series'.

In 2011 a very limited box set of the first five Jon Spencer Blues Explosion jukebox singles were issued in a hand-numbered edition of 20 copies with insert.
