"L’association Vivre Vite, organisatrice du Furia Sound Festival annonce, la mort
dans l’âme, l’annulation du festival prévu les 11 et 12 juin à Franconville. Une
billetterie qui n’a pas encore rempli ses promesses malgré une programmation de
qualité et la défection partielle de certains partenaires publics conduisent les
organisateurs à annuler le festival.
L’association Vivre Vite remercie les artistes qui avaient répondu présents, la
ville de Franconville qui avait prêté le lieu et alloué une subvention et présente
ses excuses aux futurs festivaliers qui avaient acheté leur billet. Ceux-ci pourront

Controlling Your Allegiance (Virgin)
Big room dance beats featuring big name vocalists.
The Chemical Brothers have spent two decades harnessing repetitive beats for festival
crowds; it's hardly a new concept. But recent success for Pendulum and Magnetic
Man proves that the appetite for dance music, stadium rock-style, shows no signs
of abating.
The Japanese Popstars enter the fray brandishing formidable weapons. The Northern
Irish trio's second album won't fail on ambition. To call the line-up of stellar
guest vocalist diverse would be doing it an injustice.
Take your pick from Robert Smith, Jon Spencer, Chicago house eccentric Green Velvet,
Editors' frontman Tom Smith, Irish folksters Lisa Hannigan and James Vincent McMorrow
as well as Morgan Kibby from Gallic nugazers M83. The latter's contribution to spacey
bliss pop of Fight The Night shows that away from the regulation whooshing breakbeat

and his Blues Explosion have this way of destroying every concept you might have

"Spencer said he also plans to rerelease albums by his first band, noise-rockers
Pussy Galore, next year, though not their infamously sloppy remake
of Rolling Stones classic "Exile on Main Street."
At the 40 Watt Club show Saturday, the Blues Explosion will play songs from its
entire catalog, as well as a few new ones, Spencer said. And when the tour ends,
a new album might be in the works, he said.
"We're taking things a bit slowly," he said. "We don't have any definite plans.
We don't have any studio time booked. But, yeah, when we come off tour, we'll probably
go into the studio."

In March 2011 two classical music performances have included the work of composer
Scott Edward Godin.
"Of special interest should be the work by a Canadian, Scott Godin, originally from
Edmonton. Godin named it ‘Dang,’ after the title of one of the
cuts on the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
album, Orange. In it, Godin also quotes a passage
from one of Captain Beefheart’s songs recorded on the 1969 Trout Mask Replica album."

All-star set from Gallic synth vet.
Black Devil's Bernard Fevre began his electronic-music career in 1975 with
a library curio called The Strange World of Bernard Fevre. Thirty-six years later,
things are still pretty odd. Circus is essentially Black Devil Disco Club karaoke
but the guests singing along to Fevre's familiar swirling arpeggios include Nancy
Sinatra, Jon Spencer, Faris Badwan of The Horrors and Afrika Bambaataa.
It works suprisingly well, not least because Fevre plunges the bemused-sounding
vocalists into the lysergic chug of vintage grooves such as "To Ardent" and "Magnetic

"Not only did I have the pleasure of seeing Cat Power perform live
with the Dirty Delta Blues Band (Dirty Three’s Jim White,
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion’s Judah Bauer, and the Delta
72’s Gregg Foreman) for the first time on Friday night, but the crowd at SF’s Fillmore
Auditorium and I were treated to live previews of tunes likely to appear on her
forthcoming album, as well. More thoughts on the show are on the way, but for now,

"A money manager gets hypnotized to fix his broken heart. Then, a teenage seductress
and a store clerk face their personal demons.
These troubled souls are characters in a video by New York artist Sue de Beer. “The
Ghosts” also stars sexy spirits who strip and ooze blood.
Her perfect character was a banker wanting to find the ghost of a lover who left
him. He is played by the malt-voiced Jon Spencer (leader of the Jon Spencer
Blues Explosion), who looks too handsome to be abandoned. His world
begins to unravel as the hypnotist, portrayed by German artist Jutta Koether, counts
from 10 to zero..."

"Returning to the stage shortly after breaking for an encore, they played another
full 30 minute set. The crowd continued to dance and jump around, lapping
up every minute. The frenetic pace of the band didn't waver, especially impressive
was the high speed metronomic drumming of Russell Simins."

The Experimental Tropic Blues Band will be recording with Jon
Spencer in New York in February 2011 for a record
with a planned release in September on JauneOrange.

"Cela fait des années qu'on le dit: The Experimental Tropic Blues Band est
l'un des meilleurs groupes belges en activité. Déjà excellent sur disque, le groupe
écrase surtout la concurrence sur scène. Mais celui-ci ne donnant pas dans la pop

about R.L. Burnside by Jon Spencer:
"Jon Spencer pays tribute to late delta bluesman R.L. Burnside and recommends a
place to start listening
R.L. Burnside – Too Bad Jim (1994)
In the same way I thought rock’n’roll was pretty boring as a young person, I thought
the same of the blues. To me, a lot of the blues was about Eric Clapton and this
hangover from the hippy era, so much of it still dominates. So to discover that
there were these people making really honest, weird and funky music – blues – it
was a big revelation.
One of those players was R.L. Burnside from the Hillside country in Mississippi,
a disciple of Mississippi Fred McDowell. He played all of his life, but it wasn’t
until later on when he was in his sixties that he began to really do it in a professional
way. He was a sharecropper who worked all of his life and music was his hobby. R.L.,
when we met him, was playing as a bass-less trio with his grandson Cedric on drums
and adopted son Kenny Brown on second guitar. He played in a hypnotic style, very
loose, it was totally idiosyncratic and true to who he is. Too Bad Jim is a good
example of that; this is one of my favorites."

The film includes footage of Andre Williams recording with
Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray (and a short interview
with Jon Spencer).
PRESS RELEASE: "From March of 2006 to July of 2007, directors Tricia Todd and Eric
Matthies followed the charismatic underground recording artist Andre Williams through
his day-to-day existence. For Andre, this could mean rehearsing for a show in Chicago,
recording with Jon Spencer in Michigan, performing for enthusiastic fans in Croatia,
doing a radio interview in Serbia or marching in a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans.
Throughout his 72 years, Andre has never stopped driving his creative visions forward,
regardless of cost of consequences. The consequences turn out to be severe as Andre's
addictive history catches up with him. Ultimately doing the right thing could be
the choice between life and death for a musician who is perpetually on the cusp
of newfound success."
Recently the Spanish magazine Popular 1 published an interview
with Williams and asked the following question:
"What about the album you did with Jon
Spencer? When will it be released?
I have no idea about the album I did with Jon. Nobody tells me nothing. I think
they are waiting for me to die, so they will sell more records!"
