SLEEVE NOTES: | |
“NME ESSENTIAL BANDS
It started with Klaxons turning the nation day-glo and ended with Babyshambles doing the perviously unthinkable: Booking Pete Doherty on an arena tour. And in the middle there was Arctic Monkeys vaporising the ‘Difficult Second Album’ cliche. Everyone was screaming The Enemy’s ‘OHWAYOHWAYOH-OHOH!’ Everywhere you went. And some song called ‘Foundations’. Yep. 2007 might not have had one overwhelming musical trend. But when it came to knocking out the tunes. There haven’t been many better years. My favourite moments? Watching Matt Bellamy live out his rock ringmaster fantasies when Muse played Wembley and seeing the Gossip’s Beth Ditto go from underground icon to most-wanted woman in the world. 2008 better be scared. Conor McNicholas, Editor, NME” |
