Review of the Butter 08 album from Vox magazine. | |

“Luckily, that’s not a problem Butter 08 have, a very super group featuring Russell Simins of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Yuka and Miho from Cibo Matto. Hitting the eclectic groove you’d expect, ‘Butter’ **** is a baffling scree of lounge hip-hop, nuclear age TV themes, punk attitude and filthy rock ‘n’ roll, One minute they’re barreling through the crazed spy-theme samba of ‘Dick-Serious’ (complete with Dragnet-style sample); the next, you’re trapped in the middle of a sleazy Serge Gainsbourg seduction routine. “Jus’ relax, baby”, “I’m getting hot”, “Well, huh, come here then”. Often very silly, always a blast, ‘Butter’ is guranteed to put a swing into the uncoolest step. Exactly what kind of lifestyle would take in all these records is a mystery, but it’s fun trying. And that, as Diamond, Horowitz and Yauch know deep down, is the point. – Victoria Segal” |
