The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Powerstation, Auckland, New Zealand (23 August 1994)

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion set at Powerstation, Auckland, New Zealand with Beck on 23 August 1994.

nb. show moved from ‘Town Hall’.

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion are drums and two guitars churning out rapid-fire rocking’ riffs. They pick up where Spencer’s previous work with Pussy Galore (as band leader) and the Gibson Bros. (third guitar on the live half of The Man Who Love Couch Dancing and all of Memphis Sol Today!) left off. Which is a full-tilt rock’n’roll riot with a roots awareness that’s not saddled by any boring reverence or respect. In this way, by not undermining the original teen spirit, they’re really more reverent to everything that was vital about rock’n’roll in the first place. Great band, great set.” – Andrew Palmer / Rip It Up (September 1994)
