These images and details are from a charity auction for the Kris Jensen Memorial Fund on ebay.com (The record sold for $36.00 and was later listed by another seller for a truly heroic $2999.99.). “Test Pressing of the Dub Narcotic Sound System & The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion collaborative LP Sideways Soul comes direct from Calvin Johnson himself. 1 OF 6 IN THE WORLD!!! The hand-stamped, RTI Standard A side label reads as follows: “TEST PRESSING \| DATE: AUGUST 4 1999 \| MATRIX NUMBER: KLP 103 A/B” along with a K Records address stamp. B-side is blank. The record comes housed in a standard white LP Jacket, stamped with the same date and catalog information as the label and a K Records address stamp.” The test pressing was manufactured on 4th August 1999 and the commercial version was released in September 1999. US CD and US LP both have the same catalogue number of ‘KLP103’. The Japanese CD issue on Rebel Beat Factory features an extended version of Diamonds unavailable elsewhere. Love Ain’t On The Run was included on the retrospective compilation Dirty Shirt Rock ‘n’ Roll: The First Ten Years. The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion recorded a cover of Fuck Shit Up by Dub Narcotic Soundsystem which appeared on Now I Got Worry and Controversial Negro. The K website features the original photo used on the rear sleeve. Dub Narcotic Sound System released Industrial Breakdown which features a song (Typecast Sanction) based on their remix of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion’s Soul Typecast (originally released by the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion on the 1993 album Extra Width with the Dub Narcotic Sound System version appearing on Experimental Remixes in 1995).
