Black vinyl 7″ with large centre hole with plain white paper die-cut sleeve and jukebox insert (image shows two slight variatons). Part two in the ‘Explosion Juke Box Series’.
In 2007 In The Red Records released tracks from the first five singles in this series on the Jukebox Explosion Rockin’ Mid-90’s Punkers compilation. Son of Sam is a cover version of a song originally released by Chain Gang as a 7″ single in 1977 (LYRICS) and later issed on the album Perfumed and What’s Up Matador? compilation. A live recording of Son of Sam was released on Controversial Negro. Both tracks from this 7″ stem from the Extra Width sessions. In an interview Jon Spencer mentioned a session with Kurt Hoffman where the band recorded Son of Sam, Bent, Fat (released on Jukebox Explosion…), Out of Luck (from Mo’ Width) and Relax-Her (Afro B-Side). In April 2000 the Record Collector magazine published a feature on The Jon Spencer Blues Exploson and Pussy Galore which gave the release date of this as January 1992 but this would seem to be too early in the year. In 2011 a very limited box set of the first five jukebox singles were issued in a hand-numbered edition of 20 copies with insert.
