The album was released digitally, on CD in the US, CD in the UK, double vinyl in the US, double vinyl in the UK and as a Urban Outfitters vinyl edition limited to 2000 copies with poster. Although Danger Mouse feat. Run The Jewels and Big Boi – Chase Me appears on the digital and CD editions of the soundtrack album it does not appear on the vinyl version (although it is part of the download included with the album). News: “Danger Mouse Enlists Run the Jewels and Big Boi for New Baby Driver Song” – Pitchfork.com Edgar Wright: Brian saw the first cut of Baby Driver last year and immediately enquired about the prospect of releasing the soundtrack through 30th Century Records. As I was finishing up the movie and putting the 29-track soundtrack together, Brian had the idea to do a remix based on the opening track of the movie; “Bellbottoms” by the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Its apt that we used this song as a jumping off point as the nascent idea of Baby Driver came to me in a dream after listening to “Orange” a hell of a lot when I was 21. And on top of that both Killer Mike & Big Boi make brief cameos in this Atlanta set movie, drinking with Kevin Spacey’s crime boss at a fancy ATL eatery. I’m thrilled how “Chase Me” turned out, a great collision of five of my favourite artists. Danger Mouse: Edgar showed me a cut of the movie last year and I loved the Atlanta connection. I’ve been doing more Hip Hop stuff recently, so I bugged both RTJ and Big Boi to jump on it. We’ve all known each other for years and talked about working together before so I’m really glad this could happen now. How to explain this movie in a nutshell? Well, Baby drives cars. But music drives Baby. I started dreaming up ‘Baby Driver’ upon my first listen to ‘Bellbottoms’ by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion sometime in 1995. I had it on an audio cassette duped from my brother Oscar (sorry Jon) and as I played it over and over again, I began to imagine what was the perfect car chase fuelled by this rock and roll anthem. I didn’t know for sure back in North London twenty-two years ago that my nascent idea would become a full on musical action movie released in cinemas all over the world. But the very thought of this film has been a passion of mine for these last two decades and the fact that you now own the soundtrack album blows my mind. Like Baby, music motivates me. In fact, I couldn’t start writing a single scene in this movie without having the right song to go with it. Even the first draft of the script had nearly all the songs written into it with the faint hope that we could actually use them. I had the six big action set pieces of ‘Bellbottoms’, ‘Neat Neat Neat’, ‘Tequila’, ‘Intermission’, ‘Hocus Pocus’ and ‘Brighton Rock’ all figured out, but when I started to write the scenes in between I would go digging through my record collection to find the perfect song before I wrote another word. The killer tracks you find on this album are all favorites of mine. I hope like me (and Baby) this music moves you; it’s a mix of rock, soul, hip hop and, in some cases, the original rare grooves that you may know better from samples in other tracks. I can’t rightly suggest that this album is full of songs to rob banks by because if you’ve seen the movie, you know that sooner or later you will have to face the music. So instead, why not hit the road, head west and celebrate your freedom by blasting out Baby’s perfect score-for-a-score at maximum volume.
