The Dark End of the Street (LYRICS) by James Carr was recorded in 1966 and released as 7″ single reaching number 10 in the US R&B Charts and 77 Pop charts in February 1967. This song also appears on the 1966 James Carr album You Got My Mind Messed Up (Goldwax LP 3001).

Cat Power recorded a cover of Dark End of the Street which was included in the original running order of Jukebox but was not issued until the Dark End of the Street EP double 10″ was released in December 2008.
